Junior Achievement is a program that each class is invited to participate in. The topic for first grade is "My Community". Students learn about their community and needs and wants. Room 117 looks forward to it each week, and we are very grateful for our Junior Achievement volunteer!
Room 117 celebrated Thanksgiving this week with a Thanksgiving Feast. We created our Native American Headbands, smelled homemade bread as it was baking, and made our own homemade butter. Yum! After all of the food was ready, we enjoyed every last bite! Delicious!
Today, our class had a VERY fun and exciting day! Right when the students walked into the classroom this morning, they noticed that we had a special visitor come to our classroom... a leprechaun! The students were so very excited! They were all over the classroom seeing what the leprechaun got into and what mess he made. The funny part was they all started cleaning up right away... they must not like a messy classroom! The whole classroom was cleaned and picked up within 10 minutes of them walking through the classroom door! :) Throughout the morning, we did some pretty fun St. Patrick's day activities, including a leprechaun craft! Later on in the morning, we went on a leprechaun scavenger hunt to find that naughty little leprechaun! After we got to clue #6, the leprechaun sent us back to our classroom for a special treat.... leprechaun rocks! These leprechaun rocks that he left us had to be put into special "water", where they dissolved and a magical chocolate coin appeared! The kids were SO excited to watch the magic happen! We wish every day of first grade could be this magical! :) Happy St. Patrick's Day to all first grade families! Today, we celebrated Valentine's Day in our classroom with our first grade friends. We had a fun day, which included: graphing Valentine heart candy, creating our own Valentine mailboxes, writing nice messages to each of our classmates, passing out our Valentines, and having a Valentine's Day party!
Also, this week, we started writing out "100 reasons why we love Brodnicki School" with our reading buddies. After we are finished, we will have a poster of 100 reasons why we love our school and class so much! One thing is for sure- Ms. Riplinger loves each and every one of you very, very much! Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! Today was a very exciting but sad day! We got our last letters from our elf pen pals! We have LOVED writing to them and receiving letters back! After lunch today, we got a call from the main office saying that we received another package and it looked like it came from the North Pole. Well, sure enough, it was from the North Pole! We then got our own letters out of the package, which were covered in glitter, and couldn't wait to read them! We spent a lot of time this afternoon reading them and sharing them with our friends! The whole room was filled with excitement! Well, goodbye elf friends! We hope we can write to you again next year! We'll miss you SOOO much!
We are really enjoying the holidays in Room 117! We are learning about the different countries during our holidays around the world activities. We are doing research about the different holidays on our new iPads, our computers, and through the classroom library books and our travel journals. We love looking for our elf on the shelf, Bob, each morning when we walk in, as he changes places in the room every day! We are doing many neat projects and are making many memories in first grade! Room 117 has been busy writing back to our elf pen pals at the North Pole! We are just so excited to hear back from them! Most students have found out that they are on the "good" list and that elves are all ages: 350 years old, 1500 years old, 31 years, 8 years, and 100 years old! Wow! Most elves like to have a snowball fight, sing Christmas songs, play video games, and play with the reindeer. The reindeer that is every elf's favorite is Rudolph!
We have an Elf on the Shelf in Room 117 from the North Pole! The students have voted, and his name is "Bob". He is a silly elf that has been doing many fun things around our classroom each day!
